Veteran's Day

See more videos at Great Americans

I was watching Fox News this morning, a typical morning at my house, and just happened to tune in at the moment they were announcing the launch of a new website, www.greatamericans.com, by Matt Daniels (Creator & Executive Producer). I have spent a little time on this site today, and I find it inspiring. There are stories about our men and women serving in uniform from past to present. All branches of the military are represented as well as heroes who serve in law enforcement, fire/rescue, NASA, Homeland Secrurity, and everyday heroes making a difference in others' lives. I think you should check it out. It is worth your time.
In honor of our families' veterans. My Grandpa, Johnnie Hurst, served in the Korean War. I have lots of cousins who have served or who are currently serving in the navy, army, and Homeland Security. On Bill's side we have a more detailed history thanks to Grandpa Dermody. This history is given from Erin's perspective and how each would represent themselves on her family tree: Charles W. Dermody – Grandfather – U.S. Army Ordnance – 1961-1964
Thomas P. Dermody – Grand uncle – U.S. Army Ordnance – 1964-1967 (approx)
Donald S. Fordham, Jr. – Grand uncle – U.S. Army Ordnance – 1965-1968 (approx)
James H. Dermody – Grand uncle – U.S. Navy Intelligence – 1970-1974 (estimated)
Richard Hillman – 1st Cousin twice removed – U.S. Army Reserve
Donald S. Fordham, Sr. – Great grandfather – Royal British Navy – WWII
George S. Fordham – Great grandfather – British Army Artillery – WWI

As you can tell we have a rich history of men who have worn or who currently wear the uniform with honor. Maybe my mom can help me with our side of the family history!? Today we celebrate and honor each of these fine men, and thank them for their sacrifices and service. Some we have had the privilege of knowing personally, while others we look forward to catching up with at a future time, but we love them all the same. They are our family!
